Viktor Axelsen is more than a world champion - he represents consistency, humility, and ambition at the highest level of badminton. To mark the launch of the exclusive Yonex x Viktor Axelsen collection, monopo was tasked with creating a campaign that goes beyond performance, revealing the personality behind one of the most dominant men’s singles players of all time.

This campaign is not just about a limited-edition product or a simple merchandise drop. It’s an invitation to look beyond the titles and achievements - to discover the person behind them- and to join him on his ongoing journey to strive for more.

/01 CONTEXT

Humanising a Living Legend

Viktor Axelsen is one of the most accomplished players in badminton history: two Olympic titles, two World Championships, four European Championships, and over 500 consecutive weeks in the world’s Top 10. While his success in the modern era is unmatched, this campaign offered a rare opportunity to reveal the human side behind the legend.

Beyond collecting every major title, Axelsen has become a global ambassador for the sport, supporting its growth, inspiring new fans, and mentoring the next generation. With the launch of this collection, the campaign aims to deepen his connection with the global badminton community, shifting perception from untouchable champion to relatable role model.

/02 CONCEPT

We Strive Together

The VA Collection is more than apparel, it expresses Viktor Axelsen’s philosophy of constant progress. As he has redefined what it means to be an athlete, the collection offers fans a new way to connect with him - not through results, but through a shared mindset: that greatness is built on striving, not settling.

Positioned beyond performance gear, the collection invites players of all levels to feel part of his journey, sharing his ambition and relentless pursuit of improvement. It’s a mindset anyone can embrace, and a symbol of striving together.

/03 CAMPAIGN FILM

Let’s go again

At the heart of the campaign is a cinematic brand film that captures the spirit of Viktor Axelsen’s philosophy through lightness, humour, and humility. It highlights his warmth, his instinct to encourage others, and his constant readiness to embrace new challenges.

Directed by Luke Casey, the film combines a cinematic aesthetic with playful moments, using bold visuals and stylised shots to reveal Viktor’s personality beyond the court. The light-hearted tone, combined with a strong cast and distinctive camera work, creates something that feels authentic, human, and unmistakably Viktor.

Dynamic camera movements throughout the film further immerse the audience in the fast-paced world of badminton, creating the sensation of being alongside Viktor and the juniors, striving together in the game.

By embracing the point of view of objects, the film introduces an unexpected perspective that brings the audience closer to Viktor Axelsen in a more intimate and playful way.

/04 ART DIRECTION

A collage of moments and emotions

While the film reveals Viktor Axelsen’s playful, light-hearted side, the wider art direction and graphic language focus on the relationships that have shaped his journey, giving the campaign a more emotional and personal tone.

Inspired by the scrapbooks once used to capture memories, the key visuals are designed as collages of moments between Viktor, his fans, and his coaches. Handwritten elements such as “together” add a personal layer, as if noted by Viktor himself.

The layouts also draw from movie poster aesthetics, subtly referencing the film at the heart of the campaign through cinematic compositions and film-strip-inspired ratios. This is reinforced by a bold yet balanced palette, combining the collection’s lime green with black-and-white imagery and dark grey accents.

/05 SOCIAL CONTENT

The collection in your bag

To support the campaign, we created a social series that brought Viktor’s collection closer to his fans with a more direct message. 

The series, “The collection in your bag,” highlights the collection piece by piece. Viktor shared his favourite details, from subtle design choices to lesser-known aspects of each item. Playful and exciting, the content gives fans a personable look at the collection which felt like a conversation with his fans.
